Seems like all the telecom's in Europe are literally frothing at the mouth to get the iPhone contract for their country. The word is being whispered around of an announcement that O2, owned by Spain's Telefonica has all but locked up a deal for the UK account, beating out early favorite, Vodaphone. Apparently Apple's outrageous terms for giving the business to Vodaphone, which included a big share of the revenue for the rest of eternity, as well as ten pints of blood from every new customer signing a contract, was more than they could swallow. In Germany, Deutsche Telekom's mobile phone unit, T-Mobile has already signed a deal. In France the frontrunner is reportedly France Telecom's Orange unit. While in Spain, Telefonica gets the nod. Underlying all these rumors is the belief that Apple is holding off on announcing European partners until it can report one million iPhone units sold in the U.S. And according to the way things are going for Apple since the launch, that should be just about ten minutes from now!
My iPhone wouldn't work in London. So I killed the nearest phone box!
