If Wall Street Journal staffers were worried about the "Wizened of Oz's" impending take over of their paper, the news last week that his young wife, Wendy Deng, has been appointed Chief of Strategy for MySpace's China Operation, should be sending shivers up and down their collective spines. Not that MySpace, China would have any direct influence on the WSJ, even though "The Dirty Digger" has cooperated with China’s heavy Internet censorship to obtain the relatively fast launch of MySpace China. No, what they should be concerned about is the report that a reputedly less than flattering article about Deng was recently spiked by the Australian magazine Good Weekend. The magazine is owned by Fairfax, in which News Corp. has a minority stake. The highly regarded journalist Eric Ellis spent three months working on the 10,000-word profile of Deng, only to have it killed, arousing speculation of intervention from above. Which wouldn't be the first time this has happened in the Wizened's empire.
