We're still over fifteen months from the Presidential elections But the bombardment of the airwaves by political ads is increasing daily. Top that off with the steady stream of so-called "debates," which in reality are merely collections of stale sound bites, and it's hard to avoid the world's largest collection of people you would NOT like to have a beer with. But news this week that MSNBC posted a notice on its Web site allowing all "non-NBC media and individuals" to use footage from the recent AFL-CIO Democratic presidential debate in any way they please, at least pays lip service to the democratic process. CNN and ABC have already adopted this policy, one that supposedly encourages "citizen-generated political content" online. However, among the major networks hosting primary debates, only Fox News, now, will not let its videos go free online. The network has said that it plans to treat its debate videos just as it does any other network content, i.e., all rights reserved. Why am I not surprised that "The Dirty Digger" doesn't want his semi-fascist news content out there floating around in the blogosphere? Could it be that he want's to make it available only to the acne encrusted morons who inhabit MySpace?
