We're constantly hearing how hard-copy newspaper readership is declining, while it's growing online. So, it was interesting to read today a variant on that, in as much as it turns out British newspapers have more American readers than British readers... Online, that is. According to the latest Nielsen//NetRatings, Guardian Unlimited and TimesOnline, the UK's two largest, so-called "quality" newspaper Web sites in terms of users, have more grits and greens readers than fish & chips readers. The Independent is nearly twice as popular in the U.S. as in Britain, while the Daily Mail has more than three times as many American readers online as British ones. Which is funny, 'cos I didn't think anyone anywhere read the Daily Mail, whether online or on the street corner. Anyway, it'll all change now we've got "Becks" and "Posh" over here, it means we'll be able to read all about the British Royal Family on all the US newspaper Web sites. And when the "Wizened of Oz" gets his feet properly under the Wall Street Journal table, you'll be able to press the page three flesh, as easily as pressing your mouse!
.
But if the papers all go online... What do I wrap my fish & chips in?
