Although a great admirer of Al Gore , and knowing that he gave up the Presidency he had rightfully won, rather than put the country through the anguish of what was happening in the recount debacle of the 2000 election, I do have to wonder about the staying power of his TV channel... Current TV. In the two years since it began broadcasting, Current has tried to rewrite the script and the cost structure for television by encouraging its viewers to provide content and even advertising. It has gained a lot of attention, mainly because of the involvement of Mr. Gore, the channel’s chairman and chief evangelist, who has been instrumental in getting the cable distribution deals for Current TV, and even an Emmy for himself and his partner, Joel Hyatt, Current’s chief executive. But it is not clear that Current is attracting an audience. Precise measurements are impossible because the network chooses not to be rated by Nielsen Media Research. That in itself makes me suspicious... Along with the fact that all segments are called "pods" and never run longer than 3 minutes. Is that because the owners of "Current TV" think their young audience is too dumb to watch anything for more than a couple of minutes. But, I guess I'm primarily pissed, because it replaced my favorite satellite channel "World News," out of Canada, that showed real "in-depth" news programs from all over the world. Something you rarely see on American TV. And something Mr. Gore obviously things is too demanding for today's dumbed down young audience!
.
So... I've just done this feature on "Corn" for Current TV. It runs a minute and fourteen seconds... So I may have to edit it down!
