
So, Facebook is backing down from it's "Beacon" system for liposuctioning money from mountains of user data. No surprise there. The reaction has been savage, both from users and the press. The whole thing was not only dumb, but as described by some... "creepy." The idea that users would click on ads, then shill to their friends by pushing "trusted recommendations" at them, makes you wonder what the management of Facebook was thinking. Then again, when you consider that advertisers were also negative about the concept, you have to wonder if this about face by Facebook was because of concern for users, or the realization they weren't going to make the millions they thought they would!
