I am always amazed that the majority of American State Tourism advertising goes for people who may be associated with the state, rather than talking about what the state itself can offer. This is demonstrated by the news today that the Louisiana Office of Tourism has unveiled a $6 million ad campaign that is part of the state’s ongoing effort to reboot its lucrative tourism trade in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The campaign, “This is My Louisiana,” under the auspices of the state’s Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, features numerous homegrown celebrities expounding on the virtues of Louisiana. Several NBA stars are included, in anticipation of the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans on Feb. 17. The effort includes national and regional TV and print, Internet and other elements. Mmmm... Makes you wonder why they don't include Bush, Brown and Cheney talking about spending time in New Orleans during hurricane season!
Come to Louisiana, and don't forget your shotgun!
