In spite of the fact that both Bernanke and Bush would rather have a red hot poker shoved up their arse than say the word recession, probably the most ominous sign last week that we are well and truly in one already was when the Internet ratings firm comScore reported that Google's paid clicks—the number of times Web surfers clicked on ads served up with a search—fell 0.3 percent between January 2007 and January 2008, even as the number of searches rose 40 percent in the same period. Just last August, Google's ad clicks were rising at a rate of 60 percent. Google's click-through rate was also down sharply in January. It was summed up best by ex Wall St wunderkind and criminal, Henry Blodget, when he said, "Search may be the best advertising medium in the history of the world. "But that doesn't help much when searchers are broke." It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
Don't look at me!
