Steve Jobs... Reincarnation of Leonardo DaVinci... Or, Evil Genius

Much as I appreciate the comments to my last post about Steve Jobs, and I do… A couple of clarifying points. It wasn’t me that said Jobs was blind sided by his first glimpse of the possibilities of the GUI. It was The Guardian article I linked to. Xerox invented the “Alto” which was a true personal computer, along with Atari, Commodore, the Apple 1 and 2, and many others, long before the Mac. (Not forgetting the Lisa) Yes, Jobs did take it to another level, but he was far from being the first. I would still say that over the years, Xerox has invested far more than Apple in research. If I am wrong, I stand corrected. Ethernet, the keystone of local area networking, was invented by Robert Metcalfe at PARC, who then went on to found 3Com and become a millionaire. He now lives in Boston and spends his time playing tennis. Yes, Apple launched desktop publishing because Steve is a great “packager” of technology, scalable type from Adobe and Laser printing from Xerox who licensed it to Cannon. When NeXT promoted OOP, it was already mainstream. The final comment that I am a mere “blogger” is true. I am however flattered that you are reading it… You may also enjoy my other one, “AdScam.” But we warned, the language is a little ferocious. Oh, and having worked on Apple’s advertising for several years, I am a huge admirer of the company, and it’s CEO, the evil genius, Steve Jobs.
