Wouldn't you think that a company who had built a multi-billion dollar business based on e-commerce, would do everything in its power to make sure nothing ever got in the way of it doing business over the Internet. Yet earlier today, that's exactly what happened to Amazon. The e-commerce site went down this afternoon around 1:30 EDT and stayed down for at least an hour. Attempts to access Amazon.com were met with the following message: "Http/1.1 Service Unavailable." AdAge reckons it lost at least $1.8 million in sales during that hour. But on top of that is the possible damage to Amazon's plans to offer Web storage services. It's no big deal if you can't order the latest Harry Potter for an hour. But if a company can't access all its Web sites and information for an hour, that could be a disaster. Right Jeff?
Can't stop... Gotta fix the servers!
