So, I just watched the US Republican presidential contenders’ debate on MSNBC, while sitting in my hotel room in San Francisco, before spending tomorrow with Goodby, Silverstein & Partners to impart my priceless wisdom on their employees. While watching it the thing that struck me, which applies to politicians the world over, is that most of these debates are a complete waste of time. Ten men (yes, here in the US, it’s nearly always men, when you consider that many people think of Hillary as an extension of Bill) talk in sound bites, they say the same platitudes, over an over. And, they do it in thirty second chunks. The viewer actually learns nothing. And, I seriously doubt that anything any of these bozos say will change anyone’s mind. Which as most people are not actually watching the debate, because they prefer their fix of “American Idol,” while drinking Bud Lights and munching on Taco Bell nachos, would lead one to the realization that no one gives a sh*t anyway!

I was however intrigued to read that yesterday’s French TV debate between the Presidential candidates of the left and the right, Sego and Zarko, went on for two and a half hours and became extremely heated, to the point where they actually came across as human beings. Good for them.

Having worked on political accounts, both here and in the UK, I can tell you that ninety percent of politicians are scum sucking bottom feeders who would sell their children into slavery to get elected. And we in the “holier than thou” ad biz should not have to descend to their level!
