I have to admit that I have a hard time understanding most American sports. As far as I know, none of them will tolerate a tied game, there has to be a winner and a loser. To this end, the owners of most professional teams will spend the equivalent of the GNP of a small African nation to acquire players who can nudge them up into the winner’s enclosure. Today’s news that the New York Yankees have just coughed up $28 million to purchase the aged arm of Roger Clemens for ONE season is a case in point. This works out at $4.5 million per month… And if you figure he will only pitch once every five days, that works out at over a million bucks every time he hauls his bloated, arthritic carcass onto the mound. He can’t be doing it for the money, the guy is richer than Croesus. So, it must be ego… Then you have to ask yourself why Steinbrenner is coughing up that kind of dough… He’s not only richer than Croesus cubed, he’s also older than dirt, so what’s he trying to achieve here before he heads off to the big ball park in the sky and bugs the crap out of the “Comish” up there… Oh yeah, I forgot… Ego. Like I said, I have a hard time understanding American sports.

Now that's something I can understand!
